Physiotherapist

Ben completed his Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Otago in New Zealand in 2010. He has experience working in an Older Persons Health (65years+) ward in Dunedin hospital, NZ, including treating mainly patients with neurological conditions.

Ben also has experience in Medical/Surgical wards in Timaru hospital, NZ. He has since treated a range of patients in private practice and in the elderly population. He has worked for a number of years in aged care in QLD treating all seniors with a wide range of conditions.

 

AAdam-Horwitz-PhysiotherapistDAM HORWITZ

Physiotherapist

Adam Horwitz completed his Master of Physiotherapy degree at The University of Sydney, following completion of a degree in Exercise and Sport Science.
He has post graduate experience in home visits, primarily involving musculoskeletal conditions and injuries such as; knee, hip and shoulder replacements, back pain and shoulder pathologies. He also has in-patient hospital experience for post abdominal and cardiac surgeries.

In the clinic, he addresses a wide range of conditions with various age groups and his home visit clients tend to be older people who have had joint replacements, falls or mobility impairments.

 

Laura newLAURA PERRY

Physiotherapist

Laura graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia, and since then has been working in private practice. Laura has developed a passion for sports injuries, core stability and lower limb rehabilitation. Laura believes in a holistic approach to injury and management to help her patients achieve their goals and to provide the best possible outcome and care.

Laura has post-graduate training in Pilates and regularly attends further training to ensure that her clinical skills and knowledge are kept up-to-date. Laura enjoys the outdoors, surfing and spending time with family and friends.

KOREN WEST

Physiotherapist

Koren West has completed a bachelor degree in Sports and Exercise Science, as well as a Doctorate in physiotherapy. She has been focusing on spinal rehabilitation and in particular chronic low back pain for the past 6 years.

Koren has spent several years working in nursing homes as well as 3 years of Neurological Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation before joining Sports and Spinal Physiotherapy in 2012.

 

JODIEJODIE KOEHLER

Physiotherapist

Jodie graduated from Griffith University, Qld in 2008. Her private practice work has predominately been in neurological rehabilitation, vestibular disorders, sports injury/ musculoskeletal, and she has a growing interest in Women’s Health.

She is passionate about restoring pain-free movement and function in her clients to keep them physically active and improve overall wellbeing. In her spare time she enjoys keeping fit in the outdoors with hiking, running, tennis and touch football.

 

KateKATE SURMAN

Physiotherapist

Kate graduated with a Master of Physiotherapy Studies from The University of Queensland and also holds a Degree in Exercise and Sports Science from The University of Ballarat. Kate enjoys treating a range of musculoskeletal injuries in particular the knee, aspiring to achieve not only symptom relief for her clients but also overall lifestyle and wellbeing improvements to optimise each individuals potential. She also has a keen interest in the neurological condition multiple sclerosis (MS), having volunteered for the MS society QLD. Since recently locating to the Sunshine Coast, Kate is enjoying the healthy lifestyle, as she loves to stay fit and healthy.

 


KirstieKIRSTIE DAVIDSON

Physiotherapist

Kirstie graduated in Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland in 2011. Following this she started up her own mobile physiotherapy practice in Orkney, North Scotland. As work – and the weather didn’t improve – Kirstie decided to move to the Sunshine Coast in 2013 where for the past three years she have been working in aged care; focusing on mobility, exercises and different forms of pain management.

She has three years in aged care experience, as well as experience looking after minor sports teams.

She is keen to help patients understand and not be afraid of pain they experience, why we have pain and it how it shouldn’t hold you back.

Hayley graduated with a Master of Physiotherapy Studies from The University of Queensland and also holds a Bachelor Degree in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of Ballarat. She has a special interest in aged care and neuro rehab.

Has extensive experience working within Neurological rehab and elder care. Graduated from University of Southampton, UK, January 2010 with MSc Physiotherapy (post grad). Co-completed, Masters published research into Outcome measures for Parkinson’s. Undergraduate study; BSc Sport and Exercise Science, Loughborough University.

Post-graduation worked within the NHS in the UK for 5 years. Initially working in acute neuro, orthopaedic and general hospital rehabilitation acquiring a broad base of skills. Following this worked for 2 years on a community stroke rehabilitation ward, completed post graduate study in stroke rehabilitation and elder care, which included close working with community rehabilitation teams and extensive multidisciplinary working. Progressed into working as a clinical specialist in stroke and neurological rehabilitation for over 2 years for early supported discharge team in Cornwall NHS. This was home based rehabilitation in conjunction with rehabilitation packages of care, working closely with occupational therapists, district nurses and speech therapist to provide holistic rehabilitation.

Moved to Australia and started with Sports and Spinal Physiotherapy October 2015. Since starting has broaden general musculoskeletal rehabilitation skills, sports rehabilitation and orthopaedic rehabilitation, as well as continuing with neuro and Elder care working within a residential hospital and continuing with home visits and rehabilitation. Has a great interest in Exercise rehabilitation, gait re-education/balance and Pilates and core stability.

GemmaGEMMA EGAN

Exercise Physiologist

Gemma has a strong belief that living an active healthy lifestyle improves both longevity and quality of life. She has completed a Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Science and has gained an accreditation as an Exercise Physiologist (EP).

Gemma has developed a passion for spinal rehabilitation and improving quality of life for those suffering from lower back pain. She has also worked with a wide range of conditions including but not limited to musculoskeletal injuries, obesity, diabetes, heart conditions and osteoarthritis.

Gemma has a strong focus on prescribing programs that are individually tailored and that can be self-managed for future health and fitness.

Speech Therapist / Pathologist

Known for the strange vocal noises coming out of the therapy room and enthusiasm for anything to do with voice – therapy, singing, acting, and public speaking. Suzanne also has extensive experience in the treatment of stuttering across all age groups, including the renowned Lidcombe Program.

Suzanne has worked in both educational and health settings providing therapy to both adults and children spanning over 25 years.  Seven of those years were also spent working as a Learning Support Teacher’s Assistant in a school environment.

Occupational Therapist

Kelly Forbs is a fully qualified Occupational Therapist who has a postgraduate honours degree in Occupational Therapy with focus the treatment of chronic disease in older adults.

Kelly’s main interest is working within the veteran community, however has recently expanded her service to accommodate private and Medicare funded community members. Kelly works predominantly within a person’s home to enable a comprehensive assessment of their functional abilities.

 

Damien

DAMIEN STEWART 

Psychologist

Damien has completed a Master of Applied Psychology (Sport & Exercise) and a Master of Philosophy (Psychology) degree at the University of Queensland, Australia. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and is an Associate Member of the College of Sport & Exercise Psychology. Damien is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Damien came to psychology from a 19-year career in the emergency services sector at both the state and federal level. During this time, he worked in a variety of areas that called for excellence in performance and a dedication to achieving highly valued organisational outcomes. Damien has experience providing psychological services to children and adults experiencing depression and anxiety, trauma, chronic pain and disease, grief and loss, life change, and issues of dependence.

Chloe TIM BOYLE

Podiatrist

Tim graduated from the Queensland University of Technology as a Podiatrist in 2006. He has gained valuable experience over the last eight years working in a multidisciplinary sports medicine clinic. Within this setting Tim had the pleasure of working alongside medical and allied health professionals including Sports Doctors, Physiotherapists and Massage Therapists.  Tim see’s that working in a strong multidiscipline team ensures the best treatment and outcome for his patients.

Tim enjoys a broad scope of podiatry including sports injuries of the lower limb, biomechanical assessments, gait analysis, orthotic therapy, footwear assessments and recommendations, diabetic foot assessments and treatment of conditions of the toe nails and skin.  Tim is particularly passionate about running biomechanics and footwear advice/prescription, a special interest that commenced through his strong interest in athletics and involvement in the footwear industry.

Over the years Tim has treated a number of senior and junior athletes from a range of different sports, including 2 years treating both the Brisbane Roar and Brisbane Roar youth teams.

Tim is a sports enthusiast himself having been involved in a number of sports from a young age competing at a state level in Athletics and Basketball.

Sophie is a longstanding member of the Sports and Spinal team. Joining us in 2012, Sophie worked on our administration team while she completed a bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Now completed, Sophie has joined our multidisciplinary team. With a passion for food and a healthy lifestyle, Sophie can help you achieve your health and wellbeing goals by providing individualised, evidence-based dietary advice.

Outside of work, Sophie enjoys spending time with family and friends, sharing her passion of food through cooking and baking and making the most of the beautiful Sunshine Coast.

TiaTIA STANKOVIC

Massage Therapist

Tia is Qualified Remedial massage therapist with over 7 years’ experience with Deep tissue, Relaxation, Trigger Point
therapy. She also has experience in Pregnancy massage and enjoys treating expecting mums. After studies she had
privilege to work with Professional Cycling team in Europe. Tia uses her communication abilities coupled with her
experience to find out what the client wants and coordinates this into professional treatment of each client to achieve
their goals.
