James graduated from the University of the Sunshine Coast with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours). He has a passion for assisting clients to overcome barriers set by injury, disease or disability through goal setting, equipment prescription and task-oriented rehabilitation. James has a specific interest in neurological conditions, particularly in stroke and upper limb rehabilitation post-stroke. He has a keen interest in providing innovative interventions that can improve physical and cognitive functioning for people of all demographics. James’ goal is to provide effective rehab strategies and environmental modifications that enable his clients to achieve more productive, enriching participation in activities at home and within their communities. In his spare time, he loves to travel, cook for friends, and adventure in and around the Sunshine Coast’s hinterland region.

Heather Tolhoek

Neurological & Vestibular Physiotherapy

Heather is a physiotherapist with a Masters of Physiotherapy Practices qualification from La Trobe University in Victoria. Prior to joining the team at Total Rehab Solutions on the Sunshine Coast, Heather cultivated extensive experience working in the fields of vestibular and neurological physiotherapy in the private practice and the public health service in Victoria, and as a clinical educator at the Australian Catholic University. Heather has achieved advanced competency certification in vestibular dysfunction and concussion management. She has comprehensive experiencing in guiding her clients through the diagnostic and rehabilitation process for conditions including BPPV, vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis, vestibular schwannoma, Meniere’s disease, vestibular migraine, psychiatric forms of dizziness, neurological causes of dizziness, and post-concussion syndromes. Additionally, she has undertaken numerous post-graduate professional development activities in stroke rehabilitation via normal movement and motor relearning approaches. She has special focus in the area of gait retraining for walking, running, and return to sport.

Currently Heather is undertaking the Australian Physiotherapy Association neurological physiotherapist titling pathway by completing a Masters of Rehabilitation (Neurological Physiotherapy) with key focus areas of vestibular dysfunction and stroke rehabilitation.

Her key goal is to maximise the quality of life for people experiencing vestibular and neurological conditions by guiding high quality, person centred, goal oriented, evidenced based physiotherapy intervention.

Jacob Payne

Jacob graduated from Griffith University in 2016 with a Masters of Physiotherapy following a Bachelors Degree in Exercise and Sports Science in 2014.

He has spent the majority of his career working in private practice and sports physiotherapy, developing particular interests in musculoskeletal, post-operative and neurological rehabilitation. Jacob is highly motivated to help each patient reach their desired goals.

He has recently moved back to the Gold Coast where he enjoys riding his motorbike, traveling and hiking, and spending the day at the beach.

Prior to joining the Sports and Spinal team, Jai has worked at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital since 2016 and has acquired a strong interest in neurological Physiotherapy. Jai has continued to strengthen his skills by completing a range of neurological specialised courses and workshops.

Jai has been a local to the Sunshine Coast since 2016, enjoying the beach, surf and exploring all that Sunshine Coast has to offer.

In the years since she has gained experience across a wide variety of hospital wards including inpatient and outpatient orthopaedics, cardiac and pain management programs, and surgical rehabilitation.

Tom completed his studies obtaining a qualification as a Remedial Massage Therapist (Advanced Rehab) and an additional Cert 4 in Allied Heath Assistant (Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy). Emily Whitmore

Remedial Massage Therapist

mily Whitmore graduated from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom in June 2012 achieving a first class honours degree in Sports and Exercise Science. She then went on to complete her Level 5 BTEC Professional Diploma in Clinical Sport and Remedial Massage Therapy at the London School of Sports Massage, qualifying in August 2013. She is also a qualified therapist in advanced Dry Needling.

Since qualifying Emily has worked as a Sports & Remedial Massage Therapist within Physiotherapy clinics in the United Kingdom. Her clinical experience also includes working with British Triathlon at their base in Loughborough; this has involved travelling overseas to training camps and European and World Triathlon events, helping to prevent injury and facilitate recovery from training and competition. Emily also worked as the primary masseuse for the Loughborough Students Elite Rugby Union Team who compete in National League 1.

Casey is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) after completing a Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology at the University of the Sunshine Coast. As an AEP Casey truly believes that exercise IS the best medicine. Kyeong McPherson

Paediatric Physiotherapist

Kyeong graduated from University of South Australia with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy, and moved up to Sunshine Coast in 2005 looking for an adventure. Since graduating, Kyeong has worked in various clinic settings, but found her passions in Paediatrics earlier on and has worked in this area for almost 15 years. Kyeong has spent 3 years working for the NHS in the UK, and 12 years for the Cerebral Palsy League, where she also held the Team Leader position for 2 years prior to joining the TRS family. Kyeong has experiences in all paediatric diagnosis and presentations, especially in the disability sector, with a special interest in neurological rehabilitation and complex physical impairments.

Kyeong is holistic in her care and thrives on learning and evolving as a therapist to achieve the best outcome for our clients and their care providers. From the initial assessment, there must be a level of understanding and trust, to build the relationship needed to work together with respect and positivity to achieve the goals of the client and their support team.

Away from work, Kyeong is never far away from her family (husband, son, and fur-baby). She enjoys spending time with her family and friends exploring all that sunshine coast has to offer!

Emma grew up in Melbourne, but relocated to New Zealand to study a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Otago. She decided to make the move back to Australia after graduating, seeking out the warmer weather on the Sunshine Coast.

Emma is passionate about getting people back to living their best lives, however that looks for the individual. She works with her clients to establish meaningful goals and together they strive to achieve them.

This has included work with various community support services and the Sporting Wheelies and disabled association.
