Common Questions About Psychology

A Psychologist is a trained allied health professional that are required to have a minimum of six years of university training and supervised experience. Psychologists provide therapy within a scientific evidence-based scope of practice. Psychologists provide therapy and assessment to clients and bring their expertise to improve client outcomes.

A psychologist can assist with general day-to-day concerns, assessments, mental health and wellbeing, and optimising performance and quality of life. Psychologists formulate a diagnosis and treatment plan and provide therapy, strategies, and interventions.

Clients will be listened to in a safe and confidential space. The psychologist will evaluate the client’s needs, assess their concerns and life circumstances and offer support and treatment around their specific presenting concerns/ performance/ goals.

The initial session is an intake assessment whereby the psychologist gathers the client’s history, the presenting concerns, treatment goals etc. Subsequent sessions are structured around optimising positive outcomes for the client. Progress and outcomes are measured subjectively and objectively throughout sessions.
